v All our indoor meetings are in the Castle Centre, Castle Street, Barnstaple
v The meeting room is on the ground floor. There is wheelchair access and a disabled toilet. .
v Parking available at Cattle Market Carpark, 50 yards down the road. Park in the opposite corner to the Library, near the Painted Fan Chinese Restaurant. At time of preparing this programme parking is free in the evening.
v The room is open from 7.00 p.m. and we start our meetings at 7.30 p.m. prompt.
v Donations to Devon Wildlife Trust are requested at £2.50 per adult. Children are welcome provided they are accompanied by an adult. Children are admitted free.
"Living Landscapes" Peter Burgess, a keen photographer, will treat us to a celebration of culm grassland species. He will also tell us how our Wildlife Trust is working to deliver landscape scale conservation benefits to North Devon and the Culm.

Jeff Benn will lead and instruct us on fungus identification at Somers, five miles south of Barnstaple.

"Wildlife in North Devon" and "Our Wild West" Local Film-maker John Butter will present two of his wildlife films.

Ever patient, Jeff Benn will once again explain to us some of the mysteries of our local fungus. Location to be arranged.

"The Importance of Honey Bees" .
Pollination is absulately vital for the health of the planet and all life on it. Honey bees (and bumblebees) play an important part in this work. Chris Utting will tell us about this work, the threats bees are facing and how we might be able to help.

Wetlands - liquid assets - from Global to Local. Illustrated talk by Dr. Mike Moser international wetlands expert and Chair of North Devon's Biosphere Reserve. He will highlight the the value of wetlands through the ages and around the world, and how they are crucial to the quality of our world class Biosphere Reserve. Nowadays, perceptions may have changed but the value of wetlands to modern society and for our wildlife is as important as ever.

Friday 13th February 2009 Talk 7.00 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. "What's up DOC? Nature conservation in New Zealand/Aotearoa" illustrated talk by John Bradbeer. After a career in landscape and rural planning John has recentlly returned "home" to North Devon. In this talk he will draw comparisons between conservation issues down under, and here in the UK.

Led once again by our two lichen experts, Ann Allen and Barbara Hilton. Meet at Chittlehampton Church which has some of the best churchyard lichens in the area. Friday 13th March 2009 Talk 7.00 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. "Making room for Wildlife". Bill Broadbent is DWT's Planning Officer. His work involves working with the various Local Authorities in Devon and trying to ensure that wildlife and biodiversity are included in their Local Development Framework plans. Bill will explain the National Policy on biodiversity and the Regional Spacial Plan for the South West and how it affects our local area.
Friday April 17th 2009 Short Annual Meeting followed by
Babs2Brisbane. Three continents, 2 friends, one life changing journey. Barbara Haddrill will tell of her adventures as she completed a carbon-busting (no flying) journey from Wales to Brisbane in Australia, to be bridesmaid at her friend's wedding.
Many of our members will remember Barbara from her time in North Devon as DWT's Marine Awareness Officer.
Barbara has written a book about her experiences and will have copies at appromimately £8.99, available at our meeting.
